Reading for Becca
Thanks again to Jennifer for coming up with the idea of having a read-a-thon in Becca's memory. It was amazing to see how many people read with their kids (or even read by themselves) today. We were wondering how many people actually read for Becca today, so if you did, please leave a comment below - maybe even say where you are from (if we don't know you). We'd be interested in knowing!
We love you all, and appreciate the support and love that we have been shown, and continue to be shown, by friends, family, and even total strangers.

I read to my girls extra long this morning in honor of Rebecca. I also thought about your family all day today. Part of me is sad that I didn't get a chance to know these two angels better, everybody had such wonderful things to say about them today. I admire your family's strength, such wonderful examples of Faith and Courage. Thank You for the continual reminder of the love you have for your daughters.
Linc and I wore yellow shirts today, and read lots of books too! Dan even wore a yellow tie to work :) Lots of love is continually coming your way! Thanks for being the examples you are.
Thank you for being the inspiration you are! I snuggled with my babies even more tonight. You are your family are amazing and love is surely being sent your way!
Our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you. We enjoyed a day of reading both with my kids as well as one my own.
Read to 3 of our 4 kids today (the babe isn't quite into it yet) and wore some awesome yellow shoes. Hope that some sunshine has been able to shine on your hearts today. Your girls are with you. Always.
I read with Tommy and Annie! And I read with the kids I babysat. And I read on my own. For Rebecca, for Rachel, for Cassidy, for Braden, for Brenda, for Nathan, for ever.
Love, Becky
Finished off the day with a Mercer Mayer "Going to the Firehouse". Preston wouldn't fall alseep until I finished all 4 of the books he had picked out. Thinking of you and Becca on this special day
My girls and I wore yellow (boys didn't have any in their wardrobe!) and when they got home from school, they told me about everyone that was also wearing yellow, by coincidence. It was cute that they thought about her whenever they would see someone wearing yellow. Last night Brynlee read Frog and Toad Are Friends, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and a couple Little Critter books to Landon. Tonight we read Click Clack Moo and Giggle Giggle Quack and 4 Little Critter books together. We still have more to read but it was time for bed! We'll continue tomorrow. Thanks for letting us share in the celebration. I think of you guys often. Ashlee and Brynlee said they can't wait until it's Rachel's birthday in October so they can wear pink for her. :) I find it interesting that they never knew the girls personally...either did Rob or I for that matter :( but are so touched by them.
I read with Hannah and we both wore yellow...for Becca!(CA)
Jeffrey (5) and I read "Kate and the Beanstalk" before kindergarten this morning and "You are Special" before bed today. We are so glad he has to have reading time for school because it forces us to slow down and enjoy our little guy who is growing up too fast. All our love and prayers to you!!! Nate and Laurie
We had fun reading together today and I even caught Rachel reading to Josh in her room. Unfortunately I realized that we don't own any yellow clothing!! So, Rachel wore yellow ribbons and bows in her crazy hair today! We thought about you and the girls a lot today, even shed some tears for you. You guys are amazing and so inspiring!
My girls wore yellow today and they each made sure they read their stack of books before going to bed. You are in our thoughts and prayers often. We send our love your way today and always!
My two littlest boys and I all wore yellow shirts today and spent time in the morning and a lot more in the early afternoon just enjoying time together reading many wonderful books. Frog and Toad has always been a favorite of my 4 year old and he loved reading it from cover to cover again today. Thanks for the inspiration to enjoy the kids more and make every minute count. It was nice to sit back and enjoy time and not even worry about chores I should have been getting done.
Yellow clothes worn...lot of books read to my little girls...many thoughts and prayers sent to your cute family..Happy Birthday Becca!!!
Natalie Schlappi Finlayson..childhood classmate of Brenda's :)
Happy Birthday Rebecca! We wore yellow, read many many books, had a "big fancy breakfast", listened to the killers, and spent quality time with my daughter, squeezing her extra tight for your mom and dad. You really have had such a *huge* impact on our lives and testimonies.

I enjoyed reading to my 2 year old in the middle of the day today (usually it only happens at bedtime!). Also, woke my 4 year old up when I got home late and read another book to him because I promised him I would. Grateful I could take the time to reflect on how precious our children are. My prayers are with your family today...
We all wore yellow today. I wore it to the temple, where I put your names on the prayer list. Someone asked me if it was yellow day in our family. Chris spent the evening reading to the kids.
Happy Birthday! So thankful for the knowledge that there will be many more celebrations in the eternities for your family together. Love you!
I read 22 books with my 2 year old today (my 8 month old listened and crawled along). I totally thought we could do more, but, I guess 22 is more than we do on any other day! I thought about you and your family all day long, and like you said, I squeezed them a little harder grateful for THIS day to hold them close. Much love to you and your family. I shed a few tears for you, too.
Although I have never met your girls, I am truly touched by your stories and strength. Your girls are teaching me so many lessons of how to love! You and your husband are true beacons of light for the world and beam with your faith in the plan of salvation. Thank you for what you do! I enjoyed my "Read-a-thon for Rebecca" day! :) HUGS!
I read to my little girl today in memory of your sweet little girl. I held her close and gave her lots of love. I was thinking about you guys all day and am praying that each day just gets a little bit brighter for you!
When everyone else was at school Lila and I read lots of lift-the-flap little people books in honor of Becca! (oh, and we're from Kuna :))
We wore our yellow yesterday and read a little extra. Thought about you all day, and what an amazing inspiration you are. :)
Porter and I read like crazy today and we all wore yellow. Thinking of you guys so much! You ALL are such examples of Christlike love. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I read a lot of blogs. HEART ep
Yesterday, in memory of Becca, my kids and my daycare kids and I read as many books as possible. We ended the day with a total of 344 pages. Vanna, Kennedy and I all wore yellow in some form, as did several of my old work collegues. We ended the evening in our yellow jammies! Much love to your family, you truly are an inspiration to many many families!!
I read for Becca. Caden loved it. We all wore yellow, including my husband. I'm glad we were able to do something to honor her memory. I don't often wear pink, but I will next month for Rachel.
I didn't know about the read-a-thon or about wearing yellow. I guess that is what I get for not being on Facebook. But I just wanted to let you know I think about you and your darlings often and especially through these months of September and October.
We love you!
I was thinking of you guys all day yesterday. On my way up and down the hill all day, I noticed cute things at the cemetery too! She is so loved! We read! Brenda, I've been reading House Rules by Jodi Piccoult. I don't know if I like it. It it too close to home for me. Anyway... we hope you had a good day yesterday!
Lots and lots of reading!! And lots of yellow! I even plantd some yellow mums! We love you Brenda and family! Happy birthday dear Becca!
We all wore yellow, even if was just in a small stripe in my son's shirt (his only shirt with ANY yellow in it) and my daughter was delighted to wear her bright yellow romper. We read together and cuddled tons and thought of, and prayed for all of you.
-Liesel Bendio Potter, old schoolmate of Brenda's.
We read every Mercer Mayer book we own, our Dr. Seuss books, and ended the night with Olivia. The kids chose the Mercer Mayer books to take to bed with them, Alli choosing "I Was Just So Mad!" It made me very happy to think of Becca all day and I hope your day was filled with sweet memories. Happy Birthday, Becca!
The kids and I read and I thought about you all ALL day long!
Tim and I don't have kids to read to, but we both wore yellow shirts all day and thought of Becca and your family! Thank you for setting such wonderful examples for us. :)
I read to my boys. We read Pinkalicous for Rebecca and then spent the rest of the day reading all their favorite books. You don't know me but I am friends with a neighbor of yours. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers daily.
My kids are past the stage of sitting and reading with Mom, but last night me and Morgan cuddled in bed and read together. Each taking turns reading. I loved every second of it. When we finished Morgan said "this was for Rebecca huh?" Then she told me about one day in her room Rebecca told her yellow was her favority color. Morgan asked her why she liked that color best and Rebecca said "it's the color of nature." Thank you for allowing us to remember and honor Rebecca with you.
We all wore yellow, and read lots, and lots of books! We continually pray for your family, and thank you for your example of faith and courage. Lots of love!
We all wore yellow. My girls don't remember Becca since we have been away for 2 years, but they loved listening to me talk about her. I usually only read for 20 minutes a day, but on Becca's birthday I read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom 30 times at least--my girls loved it. I took extra time to cuddle them and we all enjoyed that. For dinner, we had a big fancy breakfast and I let them use way more syrup than I would on any old regular day. I told them how I remember Becca is the sweetest girl ever just like maple syrup is so sweet. Love you guys!
Read with Megan, and snuggled a little extra :) We're thinking of you guys all the time!
We all wore our yellow yesterday (though I found that I don't own a single yellow thing; I ended up wearing a maternity top that belongs to my sister, which was NOT the most attractive thing ever)! Stopped by Sugar Daisy bakery to get yellow-frosted cupcakes before heading over to the cemetery. Spread out a blanket, started up "So What" in the background (downloaded it first thing yesterday morning!) and read from the Mercer Mayer collection you guys gave us. Amanda and Benson sent off yellow balloons into the sky; Lily wanted to leave hers for Rebecca. She was talking to Rebecca ("Do you like this book, Rebecca?"), but she was directing her comments at Rachel's headstone. I said, "Lily, this one over here is Rebecca's." Lily scooted over a step and said to Rebecca's headstone, "Whoops! I thought you were Rachel!" Then she paused for a moment like she was listening, and then she said, "You're right; it *was* kinda funny!" Maybe it sounds dumb, but I swear they were having a conversation...
I didn't know you were reading for Becca yesterday, but somehow my kids must have! They didn't want to stop reading last night!! Lots of Junie B. Jones, Dick and Jane, etc.!! I did think about you though, as we always do. It's so neat that Becca loves to read and learn--just like her momma! You were probably The Only One that thoroughly read ALL those textbooks we hauled around! You are wonderful! Love you, Tami
We made it to the Library on her day! What an inspiration she is (and will always be) of a bright little girl. Thank you for sharing this day. Always remembering you and your Becca and Rachel! Love, The Parry's
Since I had no one to read to at home, I finished reading 'The Mockingjay'. Thanks for the emphasis on reading. I love it. I would enjoyed reading to Liv, Harrison and Jack a lot more, though.
Before my 6 year old went to school, I told him the story of your sweet Rebecca and pinned a yellow circle to his shirt. He said all day kids were asking him why he was wearing that and he explained what he could remember and that it was her Birthday. We did some extra long reading that night. What a great inspiration your family is.
We all wore yellow today and were thinking about your beautiful Rebecca. Even Jessica's new little one, Maeli, was in yellow. It was an honor to participate in remembering such a beautiful girl. You gave the world a precious gift.
Read to my granddaughter for this purpose. Thanks for this opportunity! Arlene
We read today!!! Love you guys!
From Rachel Golightly: The four of us who own yellow shirts wore them today. We had breakfast for dinner--although I don't know if it was big and fancy. We read a Froggy, Olivia, Francis, Little Critter, Click Clack Moo and other books today. We even let the girls stay up a little later than usual. After school, Ashley said, "I remember Rebecca even when I don't wear yellow!" This morning she woke up and said, "I want to remember Rebecca again today." I think that meant she wanted me to read lots of books to her. We are always thinking of you and praying for you. Thank you for your example and friendship.
WOW! Look how many people remembered Becca! Of course, we did too. We all wore yellow (I didn;t even have to fight Zack after explaining it was for Becca). We read every spare minute. We read all of the books Becca gave us a couple of times. My boys love those books. Thanks for letting us share in your special day! Love you!
I wish I would of known of the readathon for Rebecca. I live near Brigham City. I have never followed a blog, but I follow yours. I feel as though you both are friends of mine after reading your whole blog and getting to know you both. Your family is so strong and AMAZING! I think of you often and you help me to be a better mother. I am a mother of 4 and my Kyle turns 5 today. Our children are all about the same ages, so that is one of the reasons you are in my heart and prayers! I will read to Kyle and Brooklyn tonight and think of your beloved Becca and Rachel.
My daughter is friends with your little neighbor Morgan and she told me they stayed in from their last recess at school to read for Becca on that day. I read occasionally and you have our prayers.
Since Ryan and I don't have kids yet, we decided we would honor Rebecca by going and buying one of her favorite books "If you give a mouse a cookie". We read it and are going to put it away for our kids to read. We will continue to get a book for Becca every year on her birthday. It will be a great way for our kids to get to know their cousin, and a great way for us to remember her.
I must apologize for not knowing about the special reading day. If you'll forgive me for being so late, I will read a book at the International School of Hyderabad, India in honor of Becca.
Peyton and I both wore our Yellow in honor of Becca! We love you guys so much!
